Jhalawar is one of the princely cities of Southern Rajasthan. Once upon a time it was the capital of the former royal state of Jhalawar. At present Jhalawar is the administrative headquarter of Jhalawar district. It was long time back the city was known as Brijnagar. Jhalawar was a city of warriors since time immemorial. This city showed the path as how to overcome all the vicissitudes in life. There were once upon a time several historical ruins found in and around the city of Jhalawar, which were all destroyed during the period of Mughal rule. Among the popular historical remains still existing in the city is the temple of Sitaleswar Mahadeva.

The economy of the Jhalawar is dependant upon trading of essential items like opium, oilseeds and cotton. Also the economy of the state is dependant upon the production of circus fruit, cultivation of red poppy and orange laden orchards. This makes the entire area colorful and fascinating during the winter months. At present tourism is providing boost to the economy. The government of Rajasthan is finding out new ways and means for the growth of tourism in Jhalawar.
There are various places of tourist attractions in Jhalawar. As Jhalawar is one of the popular historical places of Rajasthan, tourists find the places of attraction as something different. The calm and quite nature of the area encourages the traveler to visit the places of attractions of Jhalawar. The government of Rajasthan is making all out efforts to upgrade Jhalawar Tourism.
Some of the places of attractions are Jhalawar Fort, Government Museum and Bhawani Natya Shala. There are also some places of excursions like Rain Basera, Jhalarapatan, Gagron Fort etc various other attractive places of excursions. The best season to visit Jhalawar is during the period from September to March. From the capital city of Rajasthan Jaipur, the tourist can travel to Jhalawar by hired car, auto rickshaws and sometimes by buses of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation. There are some popular trains, which halt regularly in Jhalawar. The names of the trains are Avadh Express and Dehradun Express.
