Nahargarh Fort

Make sure you visit Nahargarh Fort as you take a tour of Rajasthan. This fort holds good importance in historical context and is also the first of the three forts constructed by Maharaja Jai Sawai Singh. Construction of the fort was started in the year 1734 and two and half century later the fort stands on a steep rocky face with massive walls and bastions. To get the beautiful view of “pink city”, visiting Nahargarh Fort is a must.

As you visit Jaipur, you will get to hear a mysterious tale about the fort which adds up the significance of Nahargarh Fort. The tale goes that when construction work started, strange things used to take place at night. Every day the workers used to find the previous days work destroyed. The maharaja then found out that the ground belonged to a dead Rathore prince. To please the spirit of Nahar Singh, the Rathore prince, a small fortress was build at Purana Ghat. A shrine was also added to it where the warrior could be worshipped.

As you enter the fort, the minute mirror work and intricate carvings is sure to leave you open mouthed. The fort upholds the fusion decoration of Hindu and Muslim art. Carvings of hunting pictures are also depicted on the walls of the fort, symbolizing the temperament of the Rajputs who were well known as adventurous, revolutionary and self indulgent. The visiting hours of Nahargarh Fort are between 10 am to 4.30pm.

To attract tourists, the fort also has a food joint. RTDC’s Durg Café of Nahagarh Fort is a small beautiful place where you can have snacks and enjoy the breathtaking views. Check out this fort to have a clear idea and knowledge on this royal and heritage fort of India.
