Chittaurgarh, situated along the Berach River, is home to numerous interesting tourist destinations of Rajasthan. Chittaurgarh, the land of glory and valor, is one of the most fascinating places in Rajasthan which you’d never like to miss on your tour to this beautiful state of India. The history of Chittaurgarh is depicts the life story of the famous Rajput rulers who had reigned Chittaurgarh for several centuries.

Maharana Kumbha built the Vijay Stambh in 1440 A.D for immortalizing his victory in the war against Mohamed Khilji. This 9-storeyed tower of Vijay Stambh is marvelously decorated with the beautiful sculptures of the Hindu gods and goddesses. Almost 157 narrow steps at the Vijay Stambh lead to the terrace where the visitors can enjoy an exquisite panoramic view of the city. Vijay Stambh when brightly illuminated in the evening offers a magical view which you’d like to capture in your camera.

Erected by Rana Kumbha for establishing his supreme power on Chittaurgarh and his victory over Mohamed Khilji, the Vijay Stambh stands as one of the most marvelous specimens of Rajput architecture. 122 feet in height and 30 feet in breadth with a 10 feet high pedestal, this historic monument in Chittaurgarh constructed over a time period of 10 years, is sited on an area of almost 47 sq. feet. The entire structure of the Vijay Stambh is replete with the architectural patterns of the Hindu gods and goddesses and scenes from Ramayana and Mahabharata, the two famous epics of Hindu mythology. Each of the 9 storeys at the Vijay Stambh contains many balconies. The area adjoining the monument is known as Mahasti which is used as a crematory for the royal male members.
