Rana Kumbha Palace

The culturally rich and naturally exotic land of Rajasthan has been attracting the tourists from all parts of the world since ages. With its enormous forts, majestic palaces and magical sand dunes, Rajasthan has a lot to offer to the travelers in the city. In fact, the economy of Rajasthan is dependant mostly on the tourism industry of the state. Some of the most interesting spots in Rajasthan are located in Chittorgarh, the land of splendor and glory. One of the most popular places to visit in this historic city of Chittorgarh is the famous Rana Kumbha Palace. This palace in Chittorgarh is famous historically due to the commitment of the Jauhar by Rani Padmini.

The Rana Kumbha Palace is the most widespread structure contained within the Chittorgarh fort. This palace in Chittorgarh is a historic building in ruins that still embodies the architectural splendor of the past. It is supposed to be comprised of underground cellars which Rani Padmini, queen of Rana Rattan Singh, used for performing the Jauhar, the act of self-sacrifice by jumping into a pyre. History depicts that Rani Padmini was famous all over for her charming beauty. When Ala-ud-din Khilji he wanted to see her just once he was permitted to view the reflection of Rani Padmini on a water reservoir in front of the palace.

After having a glimpse of her beauty Khilji attacked the Chittorgarh fort for possessing Rani Padmini but failed to have her as the queen performed Jauhar with the other ladies of the palace along with her children. This tragic legend of Rani Padmini led to the worldwide fame of the Rana Kumbha Palace all over the world which still fascinates the visitors in Rajasthan.
