Padmini’s Palace

Padmini’s Palace with a famous pavilion is located beside the lotus pool which altered the history of Chittorgarh. In 1303 the ruler of Delhi, Ala-ud-din Khilji saw Rani Padmini’s reflection on a water tank and he was so much fascinated that he thought of possessing the queen and started a war against the Rajputs in which Maharana Ratan Singh was killed by Ala-ud-din Khilji. Rani Padmini, instead of giving up to the enemies, performed Jauhar with her children and other women present at the palace. This tragic legend of Rani Padmini became immortalized forever in the history of Chittorgarh which still enthralls the tourists in Rajasthan.

Padmini’s Palace has made Chittorgarh one of the most glorious and fascinating place in Rajasthan, Chittorgarh being the ultimate expression of romance, pride and spirit. The mesmerizing legend of Rani Padmini still captivates the travelers in Rajasthan who could not just miss to go to Chittorgarh for visiting Rani Padmini’s Palace and getting the exciting feel of the entire story of Rani Padmini. Tourists also visit Chittorgarh for the magnificent Chittorgarh Fort which tells the story of glory and valor of the famous city of Chittorgarh. Extending over 280 hectares of land, this fort in Chittorgarh was attacked many a time in the past of this historic city of Chittorgarh. After the siege of the Chittorgarh Fort in 1303 by Ala-ud-din Khilji, the fort was besieged by the Sultan of Gujarat, Bahadur Shah, in 1535 for causing enormous bloodshed and almost 32000 men were martyred during the battle, the women being led to perform Jauhar by Rani Karnawati.

Akbar, the Mughal Emperor attacked the fort in 1568 and in 1616 Jahangir reestablished the fort for the Rajputs but it was not settled any more. At present a new township spreads out at the foothills of the hill on which the Chittorgarh Fort is sited which is well-connected by bus and rail.
