Bharatpur was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in the year of 1733 AD. Bharatpur town is situated 184 Km far from Delhi and 55 Km far from Agra. The city of Bharatpur also features outstanding collection of ancient forts and sculptures of Rajasthan. Major attractions of Bharatpur are Lohagarh Fort, Bharatpur Museum, Bharatpur Palace, Keoladeo National Park, Ganga Mandir, Laxman Mandir, etc. Among all these attractions, the Bharatpur Museum is a renowned one for its wide collection of Rajasthani art work and sculpture.
Bharatpur Museum is placed in the center of the most popular Lohagarh Fort of Bharatpur. The famous Bharatpur Museum boasts a great collection of archaeological artifacts of Bharatpur and its surroundings. As a rich historical place, Bharatpur feels proud with its Bharatpur Museum. In the year 1944, the building of Kachahari Kalan was turned into the Bharatpur Museum. It was considered as the administrative block of the Bharatpur's rulers. After some time, the 'Kamra Khas' was also added up with the Bharatpur Museum.
The Bharatpur Museum exhibits many sculptural work of Bharatpur. It mainly features sculptures found during the excavation of the old Bharatpur village. The collections of Bharatpur Museum boasts artifacts of several villages of Bharatpur such as Mailah, Bayana, Noh, Bareh.
