Bharatpur is a place in Rajasthan. It was the premier Jat state in Rajasthan and known for its world famous palaces and museums. In the year 1725, Badan Singh founded the fort as well as palaces of Deeg. Bharatpur is situated in the North eastern part of Rajasthan and widely renowned as 'the Eastern Gateway to Rajasthan'. Bharatpur town is located around 184 Kilometers away from Delhi and 55 Km away from Agra. The town was founded by Maharaja Suraj Mal in the year of 1733 AD. In the 17th and 18th century, the town of Bharatpur was the strongly armed defensive construction of the Jats.

Later on, Bharatpur turned into a popular tourist destination for its outstanding collection of ancient forts and sculptures. Lohagarh Fort is one of the most remarkable thing of Bharatpur which is highly praised by almost every art lover. Lohagarh Fort is an iron fort of Bharatpur.
Being an iron fort of Bharatpur, the Lohagarh Fort was constructed by Jat ruler, Maharaja Suraj Mal in the early 18th century. The fort is a living evidence of the bravery and politesse of the Jat rulers of Bharatpur. Due to its strong defenses, the fort is referred as 'Lohagarh'. Lohagarh fort was bordered and secured by deep moats. The strength and magnificence of the Lohagarh Fort has its own significance.
The gate of Lohagarh Fort also has an interesting story behind it. It is said that the gate was originally consisted to the fort of Chittorgarh. Later sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji brought the gate to his empire,Delhi. It was again brought back in the late 17th century by the Jat armies.

To commemorate the victories over the Mughals and the British, Maharaja Suraj Mal built the Jawahar Burj and Fateh Burj inside the fort. There is an Ashtadhatu (eight-metal) gateway in the Lohagarh Fort. It is painted by beautiful painting of huge elephants. So do visit the town of Bharatpur and have a view of the historical Lohagarh Fort.
