Akbar's palace was built in 1570 A.D. It is one of the popular fortified structures of Rajasthan. It is also one of the popular tourist attractions of Ajmer in Rajasthan. There are two beautiful stone walls surrounding Akbar's palace. This fort is very important in Ajmer's history. This is the meeting place of Emperor Jahangir and Sir Thomas Roe of East India Company, in 1616. the British took the charge of this fort in 1818, at the time of 1857 Sepoy Mutiny. It was used as a magazine to store ammunition and arms, and was converted to a munitions house.. This historical importance of Akbar's palace attracts lots of tourists to view this monument. This palace also got the name of 'Rajputana Arsenal', during that time.
A part of Akbar's palace was also converted to a museum during the post independence era. You can view the weaponry and military armor in this museum. Miniature paintings, objects d' art, antiques, archaeological finds from Harappa and Mohenjodaro and sculptures are also a part of the display in Akbar's palace. Tourists also visit this place to view these historical evidences of past. The sculptures of 7th and 8th Century A.D. are also among the displayed objects of Akbar's palace. One of the main attractions of the museum of Akbar’s palace is the black colored marble statue of Goddess Kali.
